Knee deep in COSHH

Over the last week or so I’ve been swamped with supporting five of my clients with their COSHH assessments. A COSHH assessment involves identifying the chemicals used at work, (eg. In cleaning products) and establishing appropriate control measures (such as substituting dangerous products with something less risky) to protect people from the risk of acute and chronic affects/illness when handling the products. If you have gathered all your safety data sheets, which are supplied with each product and stuck them in a folder assuming the COSHH assessments are complete, unfortunately this is not a COSHH assessment, nor is it legally compliant. Start with preparing an inventory of all the products used, and establish if any of them are harmful to health.
